Tech Support for Older Adults

How I Help You

As your personal technology coach and expert, I offer expert technical support, education, and solutions for older adults in the comfort of their home or office. I have extensive experience teaching technology to seniors. I am happy to provide a single consultation or ongoing training or support.

As an older adult myself, I am uniquely suited to working with older adults. I understand the challenges the 50+ years old set faces when it comes to learning new skills.

My goal is to teach older adults how to utilize technology to their benefit. I only feel my job is accomplished when the client feels comfortable and happy with their technology and with their technological skills!

Above all, what I do is offer peace of mind for older adults and their families. I’m often hired by adult children to help their parents. By hiring me, they can enjoy their time with their parents rather than spend it being tech support. I become tech support, instead.

“I wish to recommend Deborah King to anyone who is needing computer help in installing or operating a computer. My husband and I had never had a computer or worked with one.
Deborah installed one for us & instructed us how to operate it. It was perfect! A whole new world was opened to us and we are very grateful to her!”

“Deborah is so smart, quick and friendly, it was a joy to have her in my house. She’s very patient and answered my questions without making me feel stupid. I’m now on Facebook and can keep up with all the comings and goings of my extended family. I couldn’t have done it without her.”

“I’ve been resisting a computer in my home for years but with Deborah’s help, I now can use the computer she bought for me to write to my long distance friends. I also write stories on the computer which has been so much easier than typing with the typewriter. And she’s been a doll to work with!”

Questions

1. Can I really learn to use technology at age of 75?

I’ve never used a computer.

Can you Help me?

Yes! It only takes one of us to be good at computers. (That’s me) I can teach you how to be good enough with computers to accomplish what you want – let’s talk! I need to know what you’d like to learn or accomplish with technology, and I can help you get there. I can also provide ongoing support if needed.

2. Do you do phone consultations?

If you are a previous customer, it’s likely that I can help you by telephone. After your first session with me, you get a 1/2 hour of free remote support. After the first ½ hour of free remote support, I bill at $75 per hour (or $18.75 per 15-minute increments) whether in person or by phone. If you are a first time customer, I will not do phone consult as your first session. In order to provide the best services possible, I like to meet with first-time clients in their home in front of their computers or devices.

3. What types of technology do you work with?

I have broad expertise in technology and with a variety or computers. I can assist you with your smart phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, and iPads. I also can help you with photos, documents, routers, cloud service, and other computer issues including computer and internet security.

4. Do you charge if I want you to help me select a new computer and will you go with me?

I do charge by the hour – see my pricing page. I’m happy to discuss shopping with you for a computer and what I would charge.

5. Are you willing to teach a small group of my friends?

I find that personalized teaching is the best way to work with older adults. However, if four of your friends and you would like some small group lessons, I can accommodate you and offer you pricing. Please call me to discuss.

6. How do I pay you?

I can be paid via check, cash, or Paypal at the time of service.

7. How much do you charge?

In-Home computer support is provided at $60 per hour.  There is a one-hour minimum charge with quarter-hour increments thereafter. Each quarter hour is 15.00

If you’d like to set up regular support visits either by the week or the month, I deduct:

  • 10% for weekly, one-hour visits (minimum of eight weeks)
  • 5% for regular monthly, one-hour visits (minimum of six months).

8. What if I live out of town?

I charge a $20 flat travel fee to travel to the following locations:

Fair Oaks – El Dorado Hills – Lincoln – Granite Bay – Folsom – Citrus Heights – Carmichael

Testimonials

“Wow!  Deb is someone who knows that if I call, I am in trouble.  She answers very quickly and listens to my issues and has always made appointments with me in my home very quickly.  I like the way Deb talks me through what she is doing and doesn’t make me feel foolish for mistakes I made to get me into the trouble she is going to get me out of.  She is my “go to” person.  I would recommend her to anyone.”

About Me

Hi, I’m Deborah

After twelve-years of teaching in a private elementary school in Washington I was ready to try something different. I registered at a local community college’s two year I.T. program. Almost immediately, I found myself employed with the college I.T. department’s service center! And with that, my new career took off.

I later spent three years at Thunder Valley Resort. I started at their help desk but soon was promoted to Network Administrator. From there, I took a position with Sacramento Coca-Cola allowing me to expand my knowledge in networking, support, phones, servers and cloud computing.

After nearly eight years, I was hired by the City of Sacramento to build and maintain a sustainable technology program targeting the area’s senior citizens, a much needed service. I was excited about returning to teaching once again! I set up a computer lab, built curriculum, and interviewed volunteers to teach, and TechConnections was born. The program continues to teach older adults aged 50+ navigate the world of computer technology.

I now work independently assisting men and women in their homes with technology. I am able to use my technological expertise as well as my teaching background to combine the best of both worlds. My business allows me the opportunity to continue working with older adults – something I enjoyed tremendously while working in Sacramento.

My clients find me to be patient when I teach and as a former teacher, I’m used to working with a variety of skill levels. I adapt my trainings to your abilities.
